The Reach Highlands
Beginning just north of Seacourt, the cliffs along the coast grow taller and taller as the Highlands rise above the forest floor. Continuing north, the geography continues to rise and becomes a misty forest inside of the coastal range. The natives refer to this region as the Reach Highlands, home to numerous tiny villages but to no large metropolitan regions.
Officially under the protectorate of the Baron of Seacourt, the region has been left mostly to its own. There are very few chronic threats in the Reach Highlands and so few little need for a military presence. The road that winds through the hills, and north to the Hand of Melora, is patrolled by soldiers, but only infrequently. They are mostly there to make sure that whatever threats are present, they do not impede the business of bringing supplies to market. Also, the presence of soldiers in the Reach Highlands tends to keep petty squabbles between the hill towns from erupting into skirmishes or outright insurrection. The natives in the region are extraordinarily superstitious and have been known, historically, to get at each other’s throats for quasi-religious reasons.
